Possessive (04/20/2020 @ 6:07 AM)

Being with you has been a challenge
For my sixteen-year-old heart
One so new and still learning its self
That it cannot provide the commitment you need

You seek one that will succumb to your whims
Hasten to follow your commands
Never questioning their intent
Only willing to forget itself in your presence

I do not breath without your consent
I do not move, least I attract your wrath
I am only what you need me to be
I only respond on demand

You want to shape me into your vision
of what a woman should be
You want to take my essence purifying it,
using your formulated recipe

I know no better for youth is my disadvantage
I follow orders like a good girl should
Never questioning your methods
Only giving what is expected of me

Realizing this not normal
Realizing this is not safe
Wanting to garner space from you
I leave you,
I leave us to save me

You reacted unnaturally, irrationally
I did not realize how mad – crazy
You are until…
You drove us off that cliff

Author’s Note: Thank you for stopping by and giving this read. This poem was inspired by a past teenage relationship I survived. It is based on true events and like most writers, I write what I know. I hope you enjoy it and please feel free to comment. Have a wonderful day.
